Michelle Obama’s Surprise Visit to London

Jun 9th, 2009 | By | Category: London News

Monday 8th June, Michelle Obama and the first children make a surprise visit to London following President Barack Obama’s attendance at the weekend’s D-Day commemorations in Normandy. According to reports in the local press it was Michelle’s idea that, after the shopping extranvagances of Paris, the kids ought to have a more educational trip, and so they were shown around the original seat of democracy - The Houses of Parliament. Michelle, Sasha and Malia also visited nearby Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire to see the set of the Harry Potter movies

Following on from their day of sightseeing the family dined in a good old-fashioned British Pub: The Audley, in Mayfair (41 Mount Street, London, W1K 2RX). Michelle went for the steak, while the girls fancied the more traditional dish of fish and chips. The family spent 2 and a half hours having dinner and chatting to the locals -imagine their surprise, rubbing shoulders with the first lady!

  1. Paris gets 3 x the number of visitors London does, and here Michelle Obama shows that it’s perfectly plausible to do both. The Eurostar connects Paris and London and is only a 2 hour journey. After all, it would be silly to fly half way across the world and not visit London as well!
